Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard check-in and check-out time? Can we get early check-in and late check-out?
Our standard check-in time is 4:00PM and check-out is 10:00AM. This allows our professional cleaning crew to get the property sparkling 🫧 clean 🧼! Early check-in and late check-out is often available. However, during the busier summer months we may not be able to grant it due to a same-day turnover. We appreciate you understanding!
Is there a nearby grocery store if we want to take advantage of the property's well-equipped kitchen?
For groceries, there is a wonderful Festival Foods in Mauston about 10 mins away. They have an extraordinary selection, and even have delivery available via Instacart. There is also delivery available from the local Wal-Mart. We pride ourselves on providing a well-equipped kitchen with a variety of pots, pans, basic spices, and even a pizzaz pizza oven!
We have a smoker in our group. Can we still book?
Of course! We just kindly ask all smoking is done OUTDOORS and away from the property. Just as a heads-up, we have deployed recreational smoke detectors that will detect, alert, and document any violations. Please help us keep the space enjoyable for all.
How big is Sunset Lake? Can we bring our boat?
Sunset Lake is a quaint spring-fed lake perfect for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. The lake is clear, warm in the summer, and weed-free. Motorized craft are not allowed on Sunset Lake, however Castle Rock Lake is just down the road a couple miles and is over 17,000 acres and is great for boating, fishing, etc.

What's there to do in the area?
A LOT! For families, our properties are a quick and easy 30 minute drive via the interstate to the Wisconsin Dells area. The WI Dells is known as the "Water Park Capital of the World," and has enough entertainment options for all ages. Check out https://www.wisdells.com/ to plan your activities. A couple miles down the road is Castle Rock Lake -- one of Wisconsin's largest recreational lakes. Bring your own boat and use one of the public launch spots, or rent a pontoon for the day! For adults, there are many uniquely Wisconsin-based breweries, wineries, and distilleries within driving distance. Just ask us for a list! For nature lovers, there are multiple state parks nearby. Our favorite is Devil's Lake State Park, which is Wisconsin's most popular park. Made from a glacier during the ice age, the park has activities ranging from swimming, kayaking, picnics, and different levels of hiking with breathtaking views.
Are there restaurants or bars nearby?
Yep! Just down the road are a handful of great places right on Castle Rock Lake. The Dirty Turtle has a massive open-air pavilion with live music on the weekends. Pine Cove is known for its famous smash burgers. Enjoy a flatbread and beer at Gravitybox Brewing in Mauston. Travel a little further and you'll unlock dozens of places in the WI Dells. Our favorite spot is Ishnala Supper Club. Situated right on Mirror Lake, Ishnala is located on an old Native American trading post and offers a variety of steaks and entrees. Don't forget to order a world-famous Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned!

Abby is a teacher and I am a small business advocate (and jack-of-all-trades property manager). We love creating experiences at our rental properties that are truly unforgettable. Whether you're celebrating a birthday 🎂 with your friends, creating memories with your family, or just escaping to rural Wisconsin for a quick getaway, we have crafted a unique experience for every situation. The Stone Cottage was a home away from home. Beautiful Scenery and wildlife greeted us every morning. Every room was equipped with a TV and plenty of places to sit inside and out. We had a fantastic stay at Stone cottages. We were 4 families with kids for 3 nights.. The host Luke and Abby was incredibly kind, responsive, and always ready to help with anything we needed. The house itself is awesome—very well maintained, fully equipped with all amenities, and thoughtfully arranged with lots of small touches that really made a difference. The arcade gaming room and kayak was a big highlight and added a lot of fun to our stay. Massaging chair was cherry on top- we all enjoyed a lot. This place was perfect. We had smaller kids and adults and it worked for everyone. We went in the winter time so we didn’t get to experience the beautiful looking lake, however the kids did get to go outside and still play. They had so many amenities, including spices, coffee, little welcome Snacks, and even basics like flour and sugar. We were having a 40th birthday and we arrived to a birthday card with bakery cookies and some spotted cow. The arcade kept us all entertained and there were lots of kid toys and games to entertain the children. They also had karaoke machine that was very entertaining for all ages. We were very happy with this place and it was the nicest air bnb we stayed at. Worth the money and the amenities they had were great!

The cottage was beautiful and I am sure it would be even better in the summer because it is on the water and around so many fun bars and lakes. We loved the garage turned game room as another option for entertainment. Communication was excellent from the beginning and there was a lot of attention to small details you don't often experience in a rental that made our stay even more special. Absolutely beautiful home in every respect - lot is brand new and the home was exactly what we needed for a little getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life in Chicago. Private Beach and Lake access, spa like jacuzzi, and firepit that Luke includes all of the supplies for to have a good time. House included everything we could possibly need to cook, clean, relax, play games, etc. ONLY thing we weren't prepared for was the mosquitos which were not bad during the day time, but loved to swarm and feast in the evening. Once again though, Luke was prepared and had multiple citronella candles in every space you might want to relax by in the evening. 10/10 we hope to be back soon!

We had a great stay!! Our group of 14 ranged in age from 6 years to 79 years. We had 6 kiddos age 6 to 10. Everything was super comfortable, with great easy access to the water (a great bonus for the older grandparents) and plenty of entertainment both inside and outside. I can't say enough about the great amenities at Luke's place! From the finished garage space with bar and extra fridge to all the outdoor seating options and the well-stocked kitchen, no detail was overlooked. We made use of the firepit and wood, the kayaks and extra water toys, as well as the gameroom garage. The beds were comfortable, the parking was ample, and the space accommodated our 16 family members very well. Being a neat-freak I especially liked the large walk in pantry to hide all our food supplies. Luke was quick to respond when we ran out of LP for the fire table and offered more wood for the fire pit. The whole family agreed we would definitely stay again! Thank you, Luke, for a fabulous weekend.

We just got back from an unforgettable stay at Luke & Abby’s incredible getaway. From the moment we arrived, it was clear they are exceptional hosts. Thoughtful, responsive, and genuinely welcoming. We were three families with kids of all ages, and this place checked every single box. Well appointed, and clearly designed with both comfort and fun in mind. The private beach access was amazing for the toddlers, while the kayaks gave us a peaceful (and sometimes splashy!) adventure on the water. Evenings were a blast with snooker, retro arcade games, and that magic massage chair which became my personal favorite after hiking by Devil’s Lake. A special shoutout for the EV charging hub onsite, came in so handy for our day trips. And how could I forget the Spotted Cow surprise in the fridge? You didn’t have to… but we’re so glad you did! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a perfect mix of relaxation, recreation, and real hospitality. Until next time, Luke & Abby, thank you again!

This place was amazing. We rented it for a family birthday celebration and everything about it was phenomenal. Luke was responsive and extremely helpful through the whole process, making sure we had everything we need. The home was immaculate - the views were great, the rooms were clean and spacious. And the amenities! They have everything you could want or need. Our family had a blast with the kayaks, lilly pad, pool table and karaoke machine. It was a top-notch experience from beginning to end.

we had an absolutely wonderful time! the house was perfect for our large group. we loved the quietness of the area and the beautiful views of the lake and sunsets/sunrises! the game room in the garage was so fun, as was the video game/movie room. hosts were so great, very responsive and so friendly. kitchen was incredibly well stocked-which doesn’t always happen at these places, but we had everything we needed! and they had lots of lovely little extras (snacks in the kitchen, essentials in the bathrooms, etc…) we will FOR SURE be staying here again!

The place was fantastic. All around 5 stars + We stayed for a weekend with 2 families. Everything was great: the 2 king beds and the bedrooms downstairs made it perfect for everyone. The bonus garage area was heated, great smart television and games , and was a perfect bonus room. Overall, the great thing was the hose as very well stocked with cooking utensils, spices, little extras that say a lot about the owners. Fireplace was nice to warm up from the cold, downstairs had a nice heater fireplace with fan, and the kids loved the hidden family room. The view and the area is gorgeous. I would say this: Stop reading the 5 star reviews and book it. We will definitely be back in the summer. Luke was very responsive, super kind, and very helpful. A+++
